Where to get the money for your Italian VACATION home purchase?
As always and as universal as it gets, the
No. ONE way many finance their Italian purchase is with CASH.
If your cash is now earning 4-5% interest and you don’t want to lose out on that income, look for a HELOC - a line of credit - on your primary home in the US.
Others obtain a “secured base loan” which means borrowing money against your stocks and bonds at your brokerage in lieu of selling your securities and having to pay capital gains.
Check with your investment advisors at Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase to see what they offer and the costs involved.
Also check with PNC Bank, HSBC, and UBS. They may, if you bring your accounts to their bank, lend you money against it so you can use it for your Italian purchase.
Also don’t forget your 401K and your IRA accounts. You could borrow against them too. #
Remember you heard it here first, off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush

Why?
They could have bought more stocks.
Or another home in New York or the now very trendy Miami.
No, they chose to diversify in Tuscany.
